ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:

ALICE is an exceptionally graceful aft cockpit design which provides fore and aft staterooms in a unique raised saloon configuration featuring an inside steering station with full controls.

The FORWARD STATEROOM includes a V-berth with filler, bureaus aft of starboard berth, cabinets above and a large hanging locker to port and starboard. Three opening ports and a large escape hatch provide abundant light and ventilation. Additional features include individual heat/AC controls, shipstrike and barometer, directional brass reading lamps and a collector quality, Dutch oil lamp. While debatable, this stateroom is likely to be favored over the aft cabin for the owner's quarters.

Next aft to port is a generous head compartment with shower stall. Concealed beside the shower is a Sanyo 1l0v clothes dryer. Marine toilet is a Groco full size with holding tank.

To starboard is some additional hanging storage and a solid fuel, Luke soapstone fireplace in polished brass with matching brass firewall backdrop exuding as much charm as it does warmth. Outboard is another of the gimbaled oil lamps. Aft of the stove is a settee with a folding backrest that converts to a transom/pilot configuration. Bookshelves are outboard to either side of a liquor locker framed in leaded glass.

Opposite to port is the residential sized U-shaped GALLEY. The galley is ideally configured for cooking while passaging. It is located on the vessel's mid-ship axis and separated from the saloon by a serving space. There is 16 sq. ft. of counter space in a U-shape which is partially tiled. Other features include: double s/s sink on centerline, top opening deep freeze and refrigerator with Sea Frost holdover plates cooled by engine or 110v compressors.

Also included is a Dickenson 4-burner LPG stove (two 20 lb. bottles stored in cockpit), microwave (driven by an inverter), stainless pots and pans, matched flatware and china service for six in custom fitted storage, vacuum cleaner and recessed trash receptacle.

Two steps up is the raised MAIN SALOON with dinette to port that comfortably seats six. Visibility from all the dinette seating is superb. To starboard is the full helm station. An innovative custom helm seat serves both the helm station forward and the nav station aft.

Space under the dinette is cleverly configured to allow a work bench with vise and full spares locker when the outboard seating is removed.

One step down is the private AFT STATEROOM with a double berth to starboard, drawer storage beneath and a handsome hanging locker on centerline with five more drawers and mirrored backdrop. To port is the enclosed head with shower.

North Carolina cherry trim in hand-rubbed, satin finish contrasts with white panels and bulkheads in Herreshoff style. Cabinet and locker doors are louvered in solid cherry. Overheads are white with exposed deck beams. All doors are recessed and cherry-faced drawers are flawlessly dovetailed. Ference Mate's "The World's Best Sailboats" goes to considerable length to convey a sense for the quality of finish and degree of innovation aboard ACADIA, now named ALICE, but comparison is the best medium. We invite and welcome specific comparisons with yachts from the best custom boat builders in the world.

REMARKS:

The Able 48 Pilothouse was built by one of the finest custom yards in the world with the only criteria that each component be the best available.

ALICE achieves that elusive goal of blending a pilothouse profile into a classic and enduring hull design, an objective recently attempted by a variety of other builders.
