Adventures with ALICE: Back to Maine Part 2: Spring 2006

Mil Kime is back collecting frequent sailor miles after Bing flew off to Italy for some biking.

It wasn't all smooth sailing. The Gulfstream gave us a rough ride.

We couldn't spare the horses, because Alberto, the first tropical storm of the season, was predicted to run us over if we dallied. A course change for Cape Cod with all the speed we could muster would save a day at sea, which could make all the difference.

All sail set in nice conditions after we powered north to get on the right side of another fast-moving low. Once again Herb Hilgenberg's weather acumen made life easier.

We beat Alberto by exactly a day by making safe port at Fairhaven, Mass. The storm had no effect on the coast, but we heard later that fishermen who stayed at sea had 90 knots on the offshore side of Alberto. No thanks!

A few days later, when things had settled down, we did the last day's run to Deer Isle.
Alice back at home port, Pickering Cove on Deer Isle, adding that finishing touch to our view from the house.
